
Renzi Stymies Ohio In Series Opener

ATHENS, Ohio - Sean Renzi limited Ohio to one hit over eight innings and Dazon Cole collected three hits Friday as the Central Michigan baseball team opened a three-game Mid-American Conference series with an 8-2 win at the Bobcats' Bob Wren Stadium.
The teams play game two of the series Saturday at 11 a.m. and close the set on Sunday at 1 p.m. CMU improved to 13-32, 7-9 MAC. Ohio is 20-24, 5-11.
Renzi (5-5), a senior right-hander, struck out five and walked six. The Chippewas turned three double plays behind him and overcame three errors, two of which came in the first inning when Ohio scored both of its runs, both of which were unearned.
Daniel Jipping and Alex Borglin had two hits and two RBIs apiece for the Chippewas, who collected 11 hits. Borglin extended his hitting streak to nine games.
A Jipping sacrifice fly and a Cole infield RBI single tied the game 2-2 in the third, then CMU went ahead with two runs in the fourth on a Borglin sacrifice fly and a Ryan Heeke RBI single.
Jake Miller (2-8) allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits over five innings in taking the loss. He walked two and struck out four.
CMU's Jimmy McNamara, a senior left-hander, set down the Bobcats in order in the ninth.
Ohio's lone hit was a John Adryan single leading off the fourth.
The Bobcats used a walk, two CMU errors and a sacrifice fly in scoring twice in the first. Renzi allowed just one base runner to reach second base after that.
