
Rentschler Earns MAC Honor

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan's Katelyn Rentschler was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Softball Player of the Week.
Rentschler, a senior first baseman, led the Chippewas with a .636 batting average as they won two of three games at Northern Illinois in their final regular-season series.
Rentschler, who hails from Etiwanda, Calif., went 7-for-11 with five RBI. Her hit total included a double and a home run, her team-leading ninth of the season.
It marks the second time in Rentschler's career that she earned the MAC West Player of the Week Award. Rentschler was named the MAC Player of the Year in 2015.
On the season, Rentschler is hitting .322 and leads the Chippewas with 35 RBI.
CMU (24-25-1) opens MAC Tournament play on Wednesday at 1 p.m. against No. 1-seeded Kent State (35-20) at Firestone Stadium in Akron. The Chippewas are seeded eighth.
