MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan quarterback Cooper Rush has added two preseason accolades to his ever-growing list.
Rush, a senior-to-be, has been named to the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List and was nominated to the Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.
On Tuesday, Rush was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List. The Maxwell Award goes to college football's player of the year, the O'Brien to the nation's top quarterback, and the Allstate Good Works Team recognizes players who achieve both on and off the field, including a commitment to service, a strong academic foundation, and enriching the lives of others.
Rush is one of just 30 student-athletes, and one of just two representing a Mid-American Conference school, on the O'Brien Watch List. Zach Terrell of Western Michigan is the other. The list includes 2015 O'Brien winner Deshaun Watson of Clemson.
The award is presented by the Davey O'Brien Foundation. A list of 16 semifinalists will be released on Nov. 10 and three finalists will be announced on Nov. 22.
Fans may vote at www.voteobrien.org. Results of fan voting, which begins on Sept. 6, will be combined with the ballots of the selection committee.
The winner will be announced on Dec. 8 on The Home Depot College Football Awards, televised by ESPN.
The AFCA will announce the final roster of 25 members of the Allstate Good Works Team will be announced in September.
