Chippewas Picked 4th In West

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan football team was picked to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference West Division in a poll of media who cover the league.
The Chippewas received two first-place votes and 98 total points. Western Michigan, with 19 first-place votes and 144 points, was selected to win the West.
Bowling Green, with 12 first-place votes and 136 points, was picked to win the East. The Falcons are three-time defending East champions.
CMU was picked to finish fifth in last season’s poll then finished 6-2 in conference play and shared the West title. The Chippewas open the 2016 season at home on Sept. 1 against Presbyterian.
Toledo was picked to finish second in the West, followed by Northern Illinois, the Chippewas, Ball State and Eastern Michigan. Ohio, with 10 first-place votes and 134 points, was a close second to Bowling Green in the East. Akron was picked to finish third, followed by Buffalo, Miami (Ohio) and Kent State.
Western Michigan was selected on 19 ballots to win the Marathon MAC Championship Game, which is scheduled for Dec. 2 at Ford Field in Detroit. Toledo and Northern Illinois each received two votes to win the title game, while the Chippewas, Bowling Green and Akron received one each.
