MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan baseball team has received the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2015-16 academic year.
The Chippewas are one of just 33 NCAA Division I teams to earn the award, which goes to teams that achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.00.
"When we talk about the student-athlete experience, we want to make sure it's a holistic experience, both on and off the field," CMU coach Steve Jaksa said. "It's about not only how you act, but how you perform in the classroom. You work on your skills as a player to be successful, and you do the same thing in the classroom.
"I feel good about our young men. Our goal as a team was to try to be right around a 3.2 (GPA) and you're always trying to push the envelope, get to the next height. We're very happy to be one of the 33 nationally to be recognized out of the 300-plus Division I schools."
