
Chippewas Shine On Summer Diamonds

Several Central Michigan baseball players put together outstanding performances with their respective summer-league baseball teams.
Among them, pitchers Jordan Grosjean and Pat Leatherman, infielder Jason Sullivan, and outfielders Daniel Jipping and Daniel Robinson were selected to play in the all-star games in their respective leagues.
Robinson and Jipping also played in the Major League Dreams 16 game, a showcase featuring the top professional prospects in the Northwoods League.
Grosjean, a right-hander, is entering his senior year at CMU, while Jipping is a junior, and Robinson and Sullivan are sophomores.
• Grosjean, who played for the Irish Hills Leprechauns of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, went 4-3 with a 2.85 earned run average. He appeared in eight games, making seven starts, logging 47 1/3 innings. He struck out 41, allowed 37 hits and walked 12.
• Leatherman, a teammate of Grosjean's, went 3-1 on the season with a 3.09 ERA. The sophomore right-hander appeared in five games, all starts, and recorded one shutout. He struck out 25, walked seven, and surrendered 28 hits over 32 innings. He tossed a no-hitter on July 6 against the Licking County Settlers, striking out seven and walking two.
• Sullivan, who played for the Lima Locos of the Great Lakes League, hit .325 with two home runs, 28 RBI, 11 doubles and four stolen bases. His .325 average was the 12th best in the league, and he helped lead the Locos to the league's Championship Series. He also earned a spot on the Great Lakes League postseason all-league team.
• Jipping hit .309 with 14 home runs and 57 RBI in 71 games for the Battle Creek Bombers of the Northwoods League. He scored 47 runs, hit 15 doubles and three triples in helping lead the Bombers to a playoff berth. Jipping was named to the Northwoods League postseason all-league team.
• Robinson played for the Kalamazoo Growlers of the Northwoods League, hitting .290 with one homer and 31 RBI. He recorded 17 stolen bases, 13 doubles and scored 44 runs.
• CMU's Colton Bradley, a junior right-hander, appeared in seven games as a pitcher for the Battle Creek Bombers of the Northwoods League. He recorded two saves with a 2.38 ERA. In 11 1/3 innings, he struck out 13, walked four and allowed six hits.
• The Chippewas' Brady Williams, a junior left-hander, went 1-1 for the Kitsap Bluejackets of the West Coast League.
• The Chippewas' Dazon Cole, a sophomore pitcher/outfielder, went 1-0 with a 0.79 ERA in three appearances for the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League. He struck out nine, walked three and surrendered five hits over 11 1/3 innings.
• CMU's David Cole, a sophomore outfielder, played in the A. Green Livonia Collegiate Baseball League; and sophomore catcher Blake Cleveland played for the Northwest Indiana Oilmen of the Midwest Collegiate League.
