MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - It was the same result, but an entirely different feeling for the Central Michigan soccer team on Sunday.
The Chippewas played Buffalo to a 0-0 tie at the CMU Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium. The result came less than 48 hours after CMU allowed the game-tying goal with under six minutes remaining in regulation in a 1-1 tie with Akron.
CMU is 5-4-3, 0-2-2 MAC; Buffalo is 4-5-2, 2-1-1.
"It's interesting because you learn the difference between what draws can feel like," CMU coach Peter McGahey said. "The results from Friday and today are the same, but they feel much different. Overall, I'm proud of how the team played today."
Central Michigan logged 19 shots, six of which were in the first overtime, but was unable to find the back of the net. Buffalo had 14 total shots, with 13 in regulation.
"As a team, they took pride to buckle down and keep Buffalo off the sheet," McGahey said. "They really committed to each other defensively."
Junior Lexi Pelafas led the Chippewa offense with eight shots, three of which were on goal. Madison Pogarch added four shots on goal for the Chippewas.
Central Michigan goalkeeper Zoie Reed had five saves in posting her third shutout of the season. Laura Dougall made nine stops for the Bulls.
"You saw today that the commitment that the team had today to each other and our style of soccer and continue to push," McGahey said. "That's really important. The result may not be exactly what we want, but the reality is our process was really good."
The Chippewas will continue conference action as they entertain Toledo on Thursday (6 p.m.). The Rockets are 5-4-3 and are second in the MAC West at 2-0-2.
