MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan field hockey team dropped its final home game of the season in a rainy, nonconference matchup against No. 4 Michigan on Tuesday at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
The Chippewas (0-17) are scheduled to play their final game of the season at Ball State on Friday (3 p.m.). The Cardinals are 4-11, 0-4 MAC.
"I thought we played very well against a No. 4 team in the country," CMU coach Molly Pelowski said. "I was pleased with our effort and defense. We closed the circle a few times against a very skillful team."
Michigan took the lead at the 15:38 minute mark of the first half when Kate Walker scored off of an assist by Emma Way. The Wolverines upped their lead to 2-0 35 seconds later when Meg Dowthwaite scored.
Lily Amadio made 16 saves behind an aggressive Central Michigan defense that faced 34 total shots.
"I thought (Amadio) played very well," Pelowski said. "She had quite a few saves and I thought our corner defense played very well. Overall, I'm really pleased with her. She has been very solid for us all year long."
Carly Bennett and Fay Keijer also scored for Michigan.
"What did we know about them? We knew they were good," Pelowski said. "Do we still have to play our game? Yes. We stuck to our identity regarding what we do well. We defend really well and have excellent goalkeeping, so we worked with that angle."
