MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Half of the opponents on the 2017 Central Michigan football team's schedule played in a bowl game last season, and the Chippewas face those six teams in a seven-game stretch.
The Mid-American Conference released full football schedules today. Kickoff times will be announced later. Season-ticket renewal information will launch this month and single-game ticket information will be available prior to going on sale June 1 by visiting http://www.cmuchippewas.com/tickets/fb-tickets.html
CMU's run of teams that played in bowls begins Saturday, Sept. 23 with a home game against MAC rival Miami. The Chippewas then go on the road to face Boston College and Ohio before a home game against Toledo on Oct. 14 that also serves as homecoming. November games at Western and at home against Eastern, both teams that qualified for bowl games in 2016.
CMU opens the season Thursday, Aug. 31 with a home game against Rhode Island.
CMU, which finished 6-7 and appeared in the Miami Beach Bowl last season, will go to Kansas of the Big 12 on Saturday, Sept. 9, and to Syracuse of the ACC on Saturday, Sept. 16.
The MAC will release an updated schedule in June with kickoff times and the TV schedule for the first three weeks of the season, along with midweek games in late October and November. All other kickoff times and TV information will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game.
• The Oct. 14 homecoming game against Toledo will include special events as CMU celebrates its 125th anniversary.
• The schedule marks CMU's return to playing three nonconference games against schools -- Boston College, Syracuse and Kansas -- from Power Five Conferences. The Chippewas did that in 2014 and in '15. Last season, the Chippewas played two Power Five foes, Oklahoma State and Virginia. CMU defeated the Cowboys, 30-27, on a dramatic hook-and-ladder play with no time remaining.
• The Chippewas last played Kansas in 2014 (a 24-10 loss) and last faced Syracuse in 2015, falling 30-27 in overtime. Kansas finished 2-10 last season, while the Orange went 4-8.
• The trip to Boston College marks CMU's first meeting with the Eagles since 2002. BC finished 7-6 in 2016, beating Maryland, 36-30, in the Quick Lane Bowl.
• It will be the first meeting between the Chippewas and Rhode Island, a Football Championship Subdivision team that finished 2-9 in 2016.
