ORLANDO, Fla. - Four Central Michigan pitchers surrendered a combined 19 hits including five home runs Friday as the Chippewa baseball team dropped a 21-1 decision to Central Florida in the opener of a three-game series at UCF Baseball Park.
The series concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m. The teams had been scheduled to play a single game on Saturday and the series finale on Sunday, but will instead play two on Saturday because of Sunday's weather forecast.
The Chippewas (5-8) scored their lone run on Friday in the top of the first inning. Alex Borglin led off with a single, was bunted to second by Zach Gilles, took third on a Daniel Robinson single and scored on a Jason Sullivan groundout.
It was all UCF after that. The Knights (12-3) scored twice in the bottom of the first, and then took command with a six-run second.
Pat Leatherman (1-2) started for CMU and took the loss. He allowed 11 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits, walked two and struck out two over three innings. Sean Martens, Brady Williams and Cameron Brown pitched in relief.
Robinson and Sullivan had two hits apiece to lead CMU at the plate.
Rylan Thomas homered twice to lead UCF.
