Chippewas Sweep MAC West Softball Awards

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan softball players Allison Curtis and Rachael Knapp have earned individual weekly awards from the Mid-American Conference.
Curtis was named the MAC West Player of the Week, while Knapp earned the MAC West Pitcher of the Week honors. It marks the second consecutive week that Knapp has earned MAC West Pitcher of the Week honors and the third time this season.
Knapp, a senior from St. Joseph, recorded three wins and a save while posting a 2.10 earned run average over 20 innings in five appearances as the Chippewas completed a 10-1 Spring Break trip in Florida. Knapp recorded 34 strikeouts in her 20 innings in the circle.
On the season, Knapp has made 16 appearances including 10 starts. She is 8-3 with a 1.85 ERA. She has recorded eight complete games, five shutouts, and has allowed 62 hits, struck out 110 and walked 20.
Curtis, a sophomore centerfielder from Tuscon, Ariz., hit .579 over six games last week, collecting 11 hits and five RBI. She had five multi-hit games in that span. Curtis hit .500 on CMU's Spring Break trip and led the team with 18 hits, 10 runs, eight RBI and three triples.
Curtis is hitting .391, which is the top batting average among starters, and she also shares the team lead with 25 hits.
The Chippewas (14-7) are scheduled to play Oakland in a doubleheader in their home opener on Wednesday, March 22.
