High Marks For CMU Track & Field

ALMA, Mich. -- Central Michigan track and field was spilt up for a pair of meets this weekend, and they made their presence known in both locations.
Ten Chippewa distance runners trekked to the campus of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., to compete on Friday in the Colonial Relays.
A runner-up and two fourth-place finishes highlighted the trip to the commonwealth.
CMU's Megan O'Neil took second place out of 40 participants in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The junior from Stanwood, Mich. came across the line in 10:31.71.
CMU redshirt freshman Luke Anderson ran the men's steeplechase in 9:13.12, placing fourth.
Kelly Schubert took a fourth place amongst 82 competitors in the 5,000-meter run, coming in in 16:48.88.
A second, much larger group of Chippewas took part in Alma's Charles A. Gray Invitational on Saturday, claiming first place finishes in 13 of 38 events.
The 13 CMU student-athletes who topped the podium in their respective events: Emily Helfrich (women's high jump), Tony Armstrong (men's pole vault), April Micheaux (women's long jump), Kyra Harrison (women's triple jump), Dylan Banagis (men's discus), Kylee Dobbelaere (women's hammer), Logan Targgart (men's hammer throw), Kevin Weiler (men's shot put), Casey Voisin (men's 1500-meter run), April Micheaux (women's 100 hurdles), Simonae Dismuke (women's 400), Doofanter Nyamor (women's 100), and Danielle Horton (women's 200).
Central Michigan also posted 12 seconds and seven third- place finishes at the meet.
Several Chippewas won their events in very impressive fashion.
Banagis' winning discus throw of 169 feet, 8 inches, was a full 11 feet farther better than the second-place finisher, Targgart.
Kylee Dobbelaere and Targgart were the clear winners in the discus.
Dobbelaere's 184-6 throw was the best by more than 19 feet and Targgart's toss of 18102 beat unattached Michael Holdship by nearly 18 feet.
Weiler's winning shot put throw of 54-1 ¼ beat Lake Superior State's Cole VanOosten's second-place effort by more than eight feet.
Simonae Dismuke's 58.05 in the women's 400 was a full six-tenths of a second ahead of the runner-up.
The Baylor Bears Invitational in Waco, Texas is on tap next week for the Chippewas.
