DOVER, Del. - The Central Michigan women's lacrosse team exploded for a program record 23 goals on Friday in downing Delaware State, 23-6, in an Atlantic Sun Conference game at the Hornets' Alumni Stadium.
The win, CMU's second straight, lifted the Chippewas to 6-9 overall, 3-5 ASUN. The 23 goals eclipsed the previous record 20 that CMU scored in its season-opening victory over St. Francis (Pa.).
CMU goes to Howard (0-10, 0-8) for an ASUN game on Sunday (noon).
Sophomore Jocelyn Lemay tied the program record with six goals - three of which came in the first five minutes of the game -- and added two assists to lead the Chippewas, who built a 6-0 lead and were firmly in charge, 14-6, at halftime.
Lemay now shares the program record for goals in a game with teammate Anna Schoonover, who scored six in that season-opening win at St. Francis.
Hope Murray and Dominique Hamman split time in the goal for CMU. Murray started, saving one, while Hamman took over for the second half, saving six.
Tyra Prince added five goals for CMU, Shannon Doyle had four, and Emily Krause and Emma Hamilton had two each. Riley Huda finished with five assists.
CMU had 21 draw controls to the Hornets' nine, and the Chippewas finished with 37-18 advantage in shots.
Elizabeth Henry made five saves in the cage for Delaware State.
