
Chippewas Fall At Bowling Green, 3-2

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Central Michigan outhit Bowling Green, but couldn't get the big late when it most needed it in falling to the Falcons, 3-2, in a Mid-American Conference baseball game at the Falcons' Steller Field.
It was just the second MAC loss of the season for the Chippewas, who are 9-2 in league play and 20-18 overall. Bowling Green is 10-24 overall, 5-9 MAC. The teams play the rubber match of their three-game series on Sunday (1 p.m.).
The Chippewas, who outhit the Falcons, 9-8, scored two runs in the seventh inning to draw to 3-2. In the eighth, CMU stranded two runners in scoring position, and left the potential tying run stranded in the ninth.
Freshman left-hander Tyler Hankins (4-1) started and took his first loss of the season. He surrendered three runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out two over 6 1/3 innings. Zach Kohn allowed one hit over the final 1 2/3 innings for the Chippewas.
Bowling Green broke a scoreless tie on Riley Minorik's RBI double in the third inning, and increased its lead to 3-0 on a Jake Wilson two-out two-run single in the fourth.
CMU got its runs in the seventh on an Alex Borglin RBI single and a run-scoring groundout by Daniel Robinson. The inning ended with the potential tying run stranded at third.
The Chippewas left 11 runners on base.
Winning pitcher Zac Carey allowed two runs on eight hits. Chase Antle worked the ninth for his first save.
Robinson led the Chippewas at the plate with two hits.
The Chippewas lead the MAC West by one game over Eastern Michigan, which is 8-3 in league play after a 4-3 11-inning loss to Western Michigan on Saturday.
