DeLAND, Fla. - Stetson scored 14 first half goals to hand the Central Michigan women's lacrosse team a 20-8 Atlantic Sun Conference loss on Friday at the Hatters' Athletic Training Center.
The Chippewas fell to 4-8, 1-4 ASUN. Stetson is 3-8, 3-1. CMU will top off its weekend in Florida on Sunday (noon) with a conference matchup at Jacksonville. The Dolphins are 7-4, 4-0 after a 22-7 win over Detroit Mercy on Friday. Jacksonville is 28-0 all-time in ASUN games.
"Some of our best games this year has been against our most-challenging opponents, so hopefully we get more of that from our program on Sunday," CMU head coach Sara Tisdale said.
Natalie Karlen led the Chippewas with five points (three goals, two assists), bringing her season total to 16. Jessica Schuchardt had two goals for CMU, while Riley Huda, Shannon Doyle and Emily Kraus added one apiece.
The Hatters took a 6-0 lead in the first five minutes. Huda put the first goal on the board for CMU at the 6:44 mark, but Stetson responded with two more goals by Sam Maguire and Maddie Holvey. They led 14-5 at halftime.
"Stetson came out to win today from the very first draw and that showed," Tisdale said. "They never looked back. Unfortunately, we weren't able to answer on the draw circle and made some uncharacteristic mistakes."
The Hatters, who have won three straight games, finished with a 29-14 advantage in shots on goal and a 22-7 edge in draw controls.
Hope Murray started in the cage for Central Michigan, saving four. Dominque Hamman took over for Murray after 10 minutes. She had five saves.
Liza Diamond won in goal for Stetson, saving six. Maguire had a team-high seven points (six goals, one assist). Holvey added four goals.
