TOLEDO, Ohio. — The Chippewas seemingly got what they wanted out of the Toledo Invitational.
The majority of the athletes from both CMU men's and women's teams stayed home for the weekend, but it was still an important outing from a confidence standpoint for those who travelled.
Central Michigan got out to fast start on Thursday afternoon with Logan Targgart and Kevin Weiler taking first and second place, respectively, in the discus throw.
Targgart's winner travelled 48.05 meters while Weiler's runner-up was 45.04.
CMU's Kylee Dobbelaere continued her winning ways in the women's hammer throw, taking first place with a 56.45-meter toss.
She edged out Michigan freshman Meagan Malloy by just over a meter and a half in the victory.
More CMU success came in the form of Friday's field events with Kyleigh Young taking second in the javelin throw to start the day. Her 33.12-meter throw finished behind the 37.00-meter effort by Toledo's Anna Bellman.
CMU's Nick Malliaras and Sam Wagner took first place in the long jump and pole vault, respectively. Malliaras won his event with a 6.52-meter leap into the sand pit, while Wagner dominated with a 4.66-meter effort.
The runner-up in the pole vault, Nicholas Burkhalter of Michigan could only clear 2.81 meters.
The Chippewas only participated in three of the 20 running events on Friday: the men's 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes.
Jamar Hardy shined the brightest on the track, winning the 200 in 22.66 seconds and coming in second in the 100 with a time of 10.91.
Hardy narrowly missed the 100-meter victory, coming up .03 seconds short of Michigan's Stephen Hagen at 10.88.
