
Chippewa Baseball Hands Out Awards

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Alex Borglin captured several awards, including the Co-Most Valuable Player, at the Central Michigan baseball team's annual banquet.
Borglin, a senior shortstop from Rochester, shared the MVP with junior outfielder Daniel Jipping.
Borglin was also named the team captain and earned the Chippewa Award, which is presented to the player who best represents the program's mission statement.
Senior catcher Robert Greenman and sophomore first baseman Evan Kratt shared the Most Improved Player Award, while junior pitcher Colton Bradley and Greenman shared the Kevin Young Memorial Endowment, which is named for the late Kevin Young, who earned the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year Award in 1994.
Jipping, who hails from Canton, led the Chippewas in batting average (.309), home runs (11) and RBI (61). Jipping ranked second in the MAC in RBI.
Borglin, who moved to shortstop after spending the entire 2016 season at first base, hit .288 with 20 extra-base hits and 30 RBI while batting in the leadoff spot. He ranked third in the MAC with 52 runs.
Greenman, of Shelbyville, hit .247 with nine home runs and 40 RBI in his second season as the Chippewas' fulltime catcher. Kratt, of Richmond, became a fulltime starter for the first time in his career, and ranked third on the team with a .302 batting average. He also drove in 30 runs while recording a .979 fielding percentage at first base.
Bradley, from Augusta, led the Chippewas and ranked second in the MAC with 10 saves, and he tied for second on the team with six victories (against two losses).
In addition, CMU pitcher Pat Leatherman, a sophomore right-hander from Jenison, earned a spot on the MAC All-Tournament Team.
Jipping earned the Undergraduate Grade Point Average Award with a 3.94 GPA; Brady Williams earned the Senior GPA Award with a 3.55; and Chase Rollin (3.69) earned the Freshman GPA Award.
