Central Michigan tight end Tyler Conklin has been named to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List.
Conklin, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound senior from Chesterfield, is one of 55 players, including five representing Mid-American Conference schools, nationwide on the list.
The award goes to the most outstanding tight end in college football. The winner will be announced on Dec. 6.
Conklin made 42 catches for 560 yards and six touchdowns in 2016. He ranked second on the Chippewa roster in TD receptions and third in both receptions and receiving yardage.
The Mackey Award is named in honor of NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey, considered by many to be the best to have played tight end. He was the first president of the NFL Players Association and played 10 years in the NFL, nine with the Baltimore Colts.
