Former Central Michigan pitcher Dietrich Enns is scheduled to make his major league debut tonight for the Minnesota Twins.
Enns, who pitched at CMU from 2010-12, was drafted by the New York Yankees after the 2012 season and spent the better part of five seasons in the Yankees’ system.
He along with minor-league pitcher Zack Littell were traded by the Yankees’ organization to the Twins for pitcher Jaime Garcia in late July.
Enns, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound left-hander has appeared this season on the mound for three minor league teams, most recently the Rochester Red Wings, Minnesota’s Triple-A affiliate. He is a combined 2-2 on the year with a 2.10 earned run average. He has also pitched for the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, this season.
Enns will start for the Twins tonight in Milwaukee’s Miller Park against the Brewers’ Zach Davies. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. (EDT).
The Twins are 56-56, 4 ½ games behind first-place Cleveland in the American League Central. They are 1 ½ games out in the race for the AL’s second wild card spot.
Enns, a 26-year-old native of Frankfort, Ill., finished his three-year CMU career with a 17-3 record and a 2.40 ERA. He earned Freshman All-America honors and was named the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2010.
