TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Central Michigan women's soccer team fell to 3-3 in Mid-American Conference play on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to reigning MAC Tournament champion Toledo at the Rockets' Scott Park.
Â
The Chippewas are 5-9 overall following their third loss in four games. Toledo is 8-5-1, 4-2 MAC.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
A tale of two halves, as CMU coach Peter McGahey described it.
Â
"In the second half we came out and responded much better, had really good intensity in the second half and created a couple of really good chances," he said. "Unfortunately, we didn't score."
Â
Alex Troy scored in the 24th minute to put the Rockets in front.
Â
CMU, which did not record a shot in the first half, found some success generating offense and pressuring the Toledo goalkeeper to make saves during the back portion of the second half.
Â
The Chippewas had two corner opportunities in the last 10 minutes of the game, but could not convert.
Â
Hannah Scafaria scored in the 90th minute to ice it. The Chippewas were outshot 10-3 and lost the corner opportunity battle 9-4.Â
Â
IN GOAL
CMU redshirt freshman goalkeeper Brianna Wallbridge, who sat out Thursday's loss to Bowling Green in favor of sophomore Morgan Britain, finished with eight saves.
Â
NEXT
CMU plays two MAC road games next weekend, the first when it goes to Kalamazoo on Friday, Oct. 12 (4 p.m.) to face archival Western Michigan (10-4, 4-2 MAC). The Chippewas will then go to DeKalb, Ill. to face Northern Illinois (1-13, 0-6) on Sunday, Oct. 14 (3 p.m.).
