
Chippewa Gymnasts Post 3 Career Bests

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Bryttany Kaplan and Kennedy Rae Johnson each set career highs on the vault on Sunday in leading the Central Michigan gymnastics team in a nonconference tri-meet at Ohio State in the Buckeyes' St. John Arena.
The Chippewas got another career-best performance, this one from senior Miranda Wieczorek on balance beam. Wieczorek posted a 9.900 in the event.
The Chippewas recorded a 195.175 team score. North Carolina State (196.800) won the meet, while Ohio State (195.525) was second.
The Chippewas will compete in their final dual of the season in a Mid-American Conference contest with Ball State at McGuirk Arena on Thursday (7 p.m.).
CMU is 4-1 in MAC meets and has clinched a share of the conference regular-season title. A win over the Cardinals would give the Chippewas the outright crown.
VAULT
Kaplan (9.850) and Johnson (9.825) had career best performances to lead the Chippewas on the vault. Kaplan finished tied for fifth, while Johnson was eighth. Chelsea Knight won the event for N.C. State with a 9.925. The Chippewas finished with a 48.875 team score.
UNEVEN BARS
Kaplan and Gianna Plaksa had a 9.900 each to lead the Chippewas on the uneven bars. They tied Ohio State's Alexic Mattem and Kaitlyn Hofland for first. CMU finished with a 49.150 for the event, its best event score of the meet.
BEAM
Wieczorek career-high 9.900 tied her for fourth place. N.C. State's Knight and Ohio State teammates Jamie Stone and Jenna Swartzentruber tied for first at 9.925. The Chippewas scored 48.550 in the event.
FLOOR
Katy Clements led Central Michigan on the floor with a 9.900. She tied Knight for second place. Stone was first with a 9.925. CMU posted a 48.600 team score.
