Softball Drops MAC-Opening Doublheader

ATHENS, Ohio - The Central Michigan softball team dropped its first two games of its Mid-American Conference-opening three-game series on Friday against Ohio.
The Chippewas (9-14) and Bobcats (13-12) are scheduled to conclude the series on Saturday (11 a.m.).
GAME 1
Mikayla Cooper hit a three-run homer in the first inning to spark the Bobcats to a 4-3 victory.
Kayla Noch hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning for CMU, but Kendall Meeks came out of the Bobcat bullpen to set the Chippewas down in order and finish out the game.
Noch and Erika Underwood each collected two hits.
CMU starter Hanna Warren (3-5) did not record an out, allowing three runs on three hits before being replaced by Laura Vaccaro. Vaccaro went six innings in relief, surrendering one run on five hits while striking out two.
GAME 2
Central Michigan exploded with a four-run fifth inning to tie the game, 5-5, but Ohio responded with three runs in the sixth.
Noch and Allison Curtis each doubled to lead CMU at the plate.
Winning pitcher Danielle Stiene (9-5) went the distance, allowing eight hits while striking out seven.
The Bobcats outhit the Chippewas, 16-8.
Taylor Weaver (0-5), the first of five CMU pitchers, took the loss. She allowed four runs on five hits over 2/3 of an inning. Vaccaro, Cloe Mallory and Samantha Howell each pitched in relief.
