Chippewas Fall On Walk-Off Homer

DeLAND, Fla. - Andrew MacNeil hit a two-out pinch-hit three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday, lifting Stetson to a 5-3 victory over Central Michigan in the Chippewas' second game of the Stetson Invitational at the Hatters' Melching Field.
The loss dropped CMU to 2-7-1. The Chippewas are scheduled to play Virginia Tech on Sunday (7 p.m.).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chippwas took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth. The Hatters got a leadoff single and a sacrifice bunt to move the tying run to second with one out. Dazon Cole relieved CMU starter Pat Leatherman. After a flyout and a walk, MacNeil homered to right.
THE PITCHING
Leatherman, a junior right-hander, turned in an outstanding performance on the mound. He allowed three runs on three hits, walked three and struck out 10 over 8 1/3 innings. Cole (0-2) took the loss.
AT THE PLATE
The Chippewas collected four hits, including an RBI double by Evan Kratt. Jason Sullivan had a two-run single during CMU's three-run sixth inning.
