YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Central Michigan softball team fell to Eastern Michigan in both games of the Mid-American Conference doubleheader on Friday at the Eagles' Varsity Field.
Eastern won the opener, 3-0, and then took the nightcap, 6-0. CMU is 18-18, 8-6 MAC; the Eagles are 9-29, 5-9. The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at Margo Jonker Stadium. A start time is yet to be determined.
GAME 1
Losing pitcher Hanna Warren (6-6) allowed three runs on six hits over 3 1/3 innings. Taylor Weaver pitched in relief, allowing one hit and tallying five strikeouts.
Eastern Michigan took a quick lead in the first inning when Amanda Akles recorded an RBI single. She added an insurance run with a home run in the third.
Winning pitcher Kiara Hurley (2-5) allowed five hits over 6 1/3 innings for the Eagles.
Rachel Vieira doubled for CMU in the fifth inning. Sara Hansen, Shaidan Knapp, Maison Kalina and Kayla Noch all also added a hit for Central Michigan.
GAME 2
Losing pitcher Laura Vaccaro (4-3) allowed six runs and six hits over six innings.
Akles hit a three-run homer to highlight the fifth inning for EMU.
Morgan Gardner, Kalina, Noch and Andrea Perlberg each singled for the Chippewas.
