
Softball Heads To MSU

SETTING THE SCENE
The Central Michigan softball team will travel to Michigan State to take on the Spartans at Secchia Stadium on Wednesday (4 p.m.). It is CMU's final nonconference game of the season.
RECORDS
The Chippewas are 19-20 after dropping two of three in a Mid-American Conference series at Ball State last weekend. MSU (16-24) was swept by Ohio State in a three-game Big Ten set last weekend.
WHERE THEY STAND
CMU is third in the conference for batting average (.292). The Chippewa pitching staff carries a 2.90 earned run average, which ranks third in the league.
THE NUMBERS
Erika Underwood leads Central Michigan and ranks sixth in the MAC with a .385 batting average. She has also racked up a team-high seven home runs.
CMU's Lacy Tolfree has tallied 19 stolen bases to lead the conference, while Rachel Vieira is third in the league with four triples.
Chippewa pitcher Hanna Warren is among the top 10 pitchers in the MAC, carrying a 2.38 ERA. She has also recorded 56 strikeouts.
SCOUTING
As a team, the Spartans are hitting .255. Lea Foerster leads Michigan State at the plate (.360) and also has seven home runs. MSU pitcher Kristina Zalewski carries a 2.13 ERA and has recorded 118 strikeouts.
NEXT
Central Michigan is scheduled for its final home series this weekend when it entertains MAC foe Toledo (30-15) at Margo Jonker Stadium. The teams will open on Friday (3 p.m.) and then are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday (1 p.m.).
Toledo leads the MAC west with a 14-3 record. The Chippewas are fourth at 9-8.
