
Chippewa Women 2nd After Day 2

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Day Two of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at UB Stadium, and another good day for Central Michigan.
Sophomore Nadia Williams placed second in the long jump and punched her ticket to the final in the 100-meter dash as the Central Michigan women finished the day in second place with 40 points, 17 behind first-place Akron. Twelve teams comprise the women's field.
The Chippewa men got four place finishers and five athletes advanced to the finals in three events as CMU finished the day in fourth place with 49 points. Akron, with 89 points, leads the six-team men's standings.
Williams finished second in the long jump with a leap of 6.10 meters and she qualified for the 100-meter final with an 11.75-second clocking in her preliminary race. Her time was third among the eight finals qualifiers.
The Chippewa women got a third-place finish in the shot put from freshman Erin Howard, whose best throw measured at 15.82 meters, and a sixth-place finish from senior Rebekah Petty in the pole vault (3.77 meters).
CMU's April Micheaux and Mikaela Grant placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the heptathlon. Micheaux finished with 4583 points, while Grant posted a 4467 total. Micheaux was fifth in the javelin, seventh in the long jump and 10th in the 800-meter run; Grant was eighth in the javelin, third in the long jump, and sixth in the 800.
Chippewa sophomore Gabriella Beauvais advanced to the final of the women's 400-meter dash, turning in a 54.42 clocking - good for second among the eight finals qualifiers - in the preliminary.
Junior Kevin Weiler led the Chippewa men with a third-place finish in the shot put (17.72) on Friday.
CMU had two placers, both of them sophomores, in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase as Luke Anderson finished sixth in 9:12.21 and Bransen Stimpfel was seventh in 9:15.16.
Chippewa senior Ali Taha placed eighth in the long jump (6.9 meters), while Jack Dodge and Shane Moffo qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash and the 110-meter hurdles, respectively.
Moffo turned in the best preliminary time (14.19 seconds) in the 110 hurdles, and Dodge's 10.54 in the 100 prelim tied for second best. Three Chippewas -- Benjamin Hayes, Roshawn Morton and Erick Huertas -- advanced to the final in the men's 400-meter dash.
