Assistant Joins Volleyball Staff

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan volleyball coach Mike Gawlik has added Matthew DePauw to his staff as an assistant coach.

DePauw spent four years as a volunteer student coach with the women's program at Clarke University in Iowa and has also coached at Wahlert Catholic High School in Iowa and with VC United, a club program in Loves Park, Ill.

He has also led various camps on both the high school and collegiate levels. DePauw will work primarily with the Chippewa setters and defenders while helping with recruiting as well as coordinating travel.

"Matt has an energy in the gym that is contagious," said Gawlik, who is beginning his third year in charge of the program. "Matt is an elite player that can help us train at a high level and also has a refined volleyball IQ that we will look to tap into when it comes to strategy and game planning. Matt's eagerness to grow professionally was something that made him perfect for the role."

DePauw was a four-year starter at setter and two-year captain for the Clarke men's team. He ranks second in program history with 3,957 assists and eighth with 713 digs. In 2017, he earned Academic All-America honors and was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

DePauw earned his bachelor's degree from Clarke in 2017.
