DETROIT –Detroit Mercy scored in the final minute of the game on Sunday to defeat Central Michigan, 1-0, in a nonconference soccer game at Titan Field.
The Chippewas fall to 1-2 after defeating Southern Utah one week ago.
"Anytime you don't get the outcome you want it's certainly a disappointment," CMU coach Peter McGahey said, "Some moments we were really quite good particularly in the second half."
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
With 21 seconds remaining, CMU committed a foul just outside the box resulting in a free kick for the Titans. Detroit Mercy capitalized directly off the shot.
The Chippewas outshot the Titans, 9-6, but only two CMU shots were on goal.
"Our game up until the last 20 yards of the field was really good today," McGahey said. "That is a place where we would like to be a little sharper and create some more chances on goal."
STANDING TALL
CMU goalkeeper Morgan Britain made three saves in the first half. The sophomore has a 72.2 save percentage this season.
"It always hard as a goalkeeper to concede that goal late," McGahey said, "Her distribution with her feet was good and I thought she did a good job today."
NEXT
The Chippewas will hit the road again, traveling to Iowa on Friday, Aug. 31 (8 p.m.) and to Northern Iowa on Sunday, Sept. 2 (noon). Â
