Soccer Makes Road Trip To Iowa

Hawkeyes, Northern Iowa on the Chippewas' docket

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan soccer team will travel to Iowa this weekend to square off first with Iowa on Friday (8 p.m.) and then with Northern Iowa on Sunday (noon).
BOUNCE BACK
The Chippewas are 1-2 after losing, 1-0, at Detroit Mercy last weekend. The Titans scored off a free kick with 19 seconds remaining.
CMU lost to Notre Dame, 3-1, in its season opener; and then responded with a 4-1 win over Southern Utah in its home opener.
"I'm pleased with where we are," coach Peter McGahey said. "We're making good progress and we're certainly showing some strengths that we will carry with us throughout the season."
TEAM LEADERS
Lexi Pelafas leads the Chippewas with three goals on the season. Shannon Magnan and Madison Costner have each scored one goal this season. Pelafas is one of 96 players nationally to have scored at least three goals this season.
Magnan and Maria Kaschalk lead CMU with two assists each, while Costner and Taylor Zimmerman each have one apiece.
Morgan Britain has been the only goalkeeper to see action this year for Central Michigan. In her 270 minutes, Britain has 13 saves and five goals against.
THE OPPONENTS
The Hawkeyes are 2-0-1 with victories over Creighton and Indiana State. Iowa tied Missouri in it's home opener 0-0. Hawkeye goalkeeper Claire Graves has 13 saves and zero goals against in 270 minutes this season.
Northern Iowa is 1-0-2 with a 1-0 victory over Colorado State. The Panthers tied both Wyoming and South Dakota 0-0.
COACH McGAHEY
"You tackle Iowa first and then you get yourself focused for Northern Iowa," McGahey said. "If you try to tackle two games at a time you can get yourself in trouble."

The Chippewas go to Michigan on Friday, Sept. 7, and then to Oakland on Sunday, Sept. 9.
