LINCOLN, Neb. – On the final day of the Husker Invite, the Central Michigan volleyball team lost to New Mexico 25-21, 17-25, 25-12, 17-25, 15-7.

It was the final nonconference match for the Chippewas (3-9), who begin Mid-American Conference play by entertaining Eastern Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 20, at McGuirk Arena.

Lyza Myers tied her season-high with 16 kills to lead the Chippewas against New Mexico (6-6). Also for the Chippewas, Kalina Smith posted 13 kills while Jayla Wesley added 10. Both Myers and Wesley hit over .300 and had four blocks on the day.

WHAT HAPPENED
After falling in the first set, CMU was tied 12-12 when the Chippewas scored five of the next six points to pull away from the Lobos.

New Mexico cruised in the third set three and then held a 17-14 lead in set four, but CMU scored 11 straight points to take the set and even the match at 2-2.

New Mexico jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth set, propelling it to the victory.

MYERS
Lyza Myers capped off a solid weekend with double-digit kills against New Mexico. The sophomore had 29 kills on the weekend after recording 13 in losses to fourth-ranked and defending-national champion Nebraska and to Missouri State on Friday.

Myers is second among CMU players with 113 kills and leads the team with a .247 hitting percentage.

After hosting Eastern Michigan, CMU will remain at home for a MAC match against Ohio (8 p.m.) on Saturday at McGuirk Arena.
