Chippewa Volleyball Goes 0-2 To Open Sycamore Invitational

CMU slips to 2-6, closes tournament on Saturday against host Indiana State

TERRA HAUTE, Ind. – The Central Michigan volleyball team dropped two matches on Friday at the Sycamore Invitational, hosted by Indiana State. The Chippewas slipped to 2-6 on the season.
CMU fell to Green Bay 25-16, 25-23, 25-13 and to Saint Louis 25-17, 25-23, 25-13.
Central Michigan will round out the invitational on Saturday (noon) against the host Sycamores.

WHAT HAPPENED
After falling in the first set, CMU found itself in a 23-20 deficit late in the second to Green Bay. CMU responded by forcing two attack errors, but the Phoenix went on to win the second and third set.

The Chippewas found themselves in another competitive second game, this time against Saint Louis. CMU responded with three straight points drawing within one but was unable to complete the comeback falling 25-23.

OFFENSIVE LEADERS
Sophomores Kalina Smith and Lyza Myers led the Chippewas with 16 and 14 kills, respectively. Savannah Thompson also had 13 kills for CMU while Kendall Braate dished out 42 assists on the day.

DEFENSIVE LEADERS
Myers also contributed defensively leading the Chippewas with four blocks. Jayla Wesley and Maddie Whitfield had three blocks and Emily Wenglikowski and Braate led the team with 17 digs each.

NEXT
Central Michigan returns to action next weekend at the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. The Chippewas will start the invitational by facing host Nebraska on Friday (1 p.m.).
