MAC Road Duals Await Chippewa Wrestlers

CMU ends two-week break at fifth-ranked Missouri on Saturday
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan wrestling team returns to action this weekend after a two-week break.
On the Chippewas' docket is a road trip during which it will wrestle Mid-American Conference duals against Missouri and SIU Edwardsville.
CMU will wrestle the fifth-ranked Tigers on Saturday (2 p.m.) in Columbia, Mo., and will take on SIUE on Sunday (3 p.m.) in Edwardsville, Ill.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chippewas dropped a 24-9 decision to Old Dominion in a MAC dual at McGuirk Arena.
CMU is 2-3 overall, 1-1 MAC.
The highlight of the dual was provided by CMU junior Logan Parks, who defeated third-ranked Larry Early, 4-0, in the 157-pound bout. The Chippewas also got victories from Matt Stencel (285) and Deven Perez.
Stencel is ranked 14th nationally by The Open Mat.
Four Chippewas – Stencel, Parks, Jordan Atienza and Drew Hildebrandt – are among those wrestlers in the January MAC individual rankings.
Stencel and Atienza (184) are both ranked second, while Hildebrandt (125) is third and Parks is fourth.
SCOUTING MIZZOU
Missouri continues its reign atop the MAC. The six-time defending league champion has shown no signs of a letup and enters Saturday's meet having won 32 consecutive duals.
The Tigers are 12-0 overall, 5-0 MAC.
Missouri's projected lineup features eight wrestlers who are ranked nationally by The Open Mat. They are Zach Elam (286) 16th; Dylan Wisman (184) 17th; Daniel Lewis (174) fourth; Cooper Flynn (165) 13th; Jarrett Jacques (157) 19th; Brock Mauller (149) 12th; Jaydin Eierman (141) third; John Erneste (133) 10th.
BIG MATCHUP
The most intriguing matchup in the Chippewas' dual with Missouri is at 285, where Stencel, who is 16-4, is likely to face Elam, a freshman who is 17-5.
SCOUTING SIUE
SIUE Edwardsville is 1-8 and 1-3 in the MAC in its first year in the league.
The Cougars, who previously competed in the Southern Conference, defeated Buffalo, 20-16, a week ago for their first MAC dual win.
