Chippewas to compete in one of premier indoor meets of the season
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. –It's back to South Bend, Ind., for the Central Michigan indoor track & field team this weekend as the Chippewas partake in the 32ndAnnual Notre Dame Meyo Invitational, one of the premier indoor events of the collegiate season.
The invitational is scheduled for the Loftus Sports Center, where the Chippewas competed two weeks ago in the Notre Dame Invitational.
The field events on Friday are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. with the women's long jump, and the running events start carry a 4:30 p.m. start, beginning with the women's 60-meter hurdles.
On Saturday, running events start at 9:45 a.m. with the women's hurdle semifinals, while the field events are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women's triple jump.
Among the teams scheduled to compete are several of CMU's Mid-American Conference brethren in Western Michigan, Ball State, Miami (Ohio), Bowling Green, and Eastern Michigan.
REST AND RECOVERY
The Chippewas competed last weekend at the Eastern Michigan Can-AM Invitational. Many of the Chippewas' front-line performers sat out to rest and prepare for a busy February which culminates on Feb. 22-23 with the MAC Championships at Kent State.
"I think for the most part people needed a little bit of recovery because we're getting into the grind again," CMU director of track & field/cross country Jenny Swieton said. "In the indoor season, you race so much more frequently than you do in cross country and the people who aren't cross country athletes are coming off of a whole semester of not racing.
"Giving them a weekend off to recover and breathe every now and then gives them a chance to regroup. Even if it's to just mentally de-stress and study because we're traveling so much."

The Chippewas will send athletes to two meets next weekend, the Kent State Doug Raymond Invitational and the Grand Valley State Big Meet.
