Salvador Earns MAC Golfer Of The Week Award

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Claudia Salvador has been named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week.
Salvador, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, made CMU golf history on Tuesday when she won the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodon Fall Invitational in Fort Wayne, Ind., becoming the first Chippewa to win a tournament since the program was resurrected in 2014-15.
It was just the fourth collegiate tournament for Salvador, who shot 76-74-71—221 at the Pine Valley Country Club to win by seven shots.
She entered the final round with a one-shot lead and then won going away with an even-par 71, the best round of the tournament among the 44-player field. She was efficient and steady in that round, making two birdies and two bogeys along with 14 pars.
She led the field with nine birdies in the 54-hole event as CMU finished second.
Salvador's 221 ties for the second lowest 54-hole total in program history, and her final-round 71 ties for the third best round in program history and marks the ninth time a Chippewa golfer has finished even par or better for 18 holes. In addition, her 36-hole 150 total is among the top 10 in program history.
