Chippewa women run at EMU Fall Classic
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The CMU women's cross country team will travel to Dexter, Mich. on Friday for the EMU Fall Classic on Friday in Dexter, Mich. The Chippewas are scheduled to run at 5 p.m.
This is the last race the Chippewas will attend before the Mid-American Conference Championship on Nov. 2.
CMU coach Jenny Swieton said the team will only be running people who aren't competing in the conference championship.
Swieton said the race is a good opportunity for some of the younger team members to showcase the work they've put in over the course of the season, and to measure their progress.
"We have some student-athletes that have been working really hard," Swieton said. "They're young, freshmen and sophomores, and they've been working really hard and I think it's just nice to get an opportunity to show that the hard work has paid off."
Swieton said the younger members running on Friday will be a big part of the Chippewas' future, beginning with the indoor track and field season in December.
"They're definitely people we'll count on in the future," Swieton said said. "Some of them are maybe more middle-distance (runners) on the track. I think they're about to do something really big on the track, so it's good to get this experience in cross country, just competing, even though the distance is a little bit longer."
