Five Sign With CMU Field Hockey

-MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan field hockey coach Catherine Ostoich has announced her 2020 signing class, which comprises five players who will join the Chippewas next fall.

"I am thrilled to welcome this class of five talented, hard-working student-athletes to our Central Michigan field hockey family," Ostoich said. "They all come from good programs and bring with them solid fundamentals, a desire to win, and the commitment to hold their teammates to higher standards.

"Their knowledge of the game, grit on the field and passion that they have for this sport will help challenge our team to reach new standards next season. I am excited to see the impact they will make, both on and off the field, as well as in the Central Michigan University community."

The class comprises Caroline Beairsto of Lumberton, N.J.; Kate Biglin of Bloomfield Hills; Hannah Havrilla of Blue Bell, Pa.; and Katie Maxim and Hannah Wilson, both of St. Louis.

Four-year varsity letterwinner … team captain for 2018 and 2019 seasons … totaled 5 career goals and 7 assists … named to 2017 and 2018 All-Burlington County Second Team … two-time Burlington County Scholastic League First Team All-Conference selection … member of Group 4 Central Jersey championship team in 2018 … honored with the 2018 Rancocas Valley Field Hockey (RVFH) Spirit Award … two-time recipient of the RVFH Will to Win Award … played club with Xplosive Hockey Club for four years.

Coach Ostoich on Caroline Beairsto:
"Caroline is a feisty defender with exceptional elimination skills. She has nice low tackles and great field sense. She will have an enormous impact in our backfield next year."

Four-year varsity letterwinner … team captain for junior and senior seasons … MHS's leading scorer for three-consecutive seasons … helped the Mustangs become the first team to ever win four-straight Catholic League Championships … scored 74 career goals … MHSAA First Team All-State honoree in 2018 and 2019 … named First Team All-Catholic League (2018, 2019) … placed on 2019 Dream Team (top 10 players in the division) … earned MHSAA All-State Honorable Mention in 2017 … also received three varsity letters in soccer … helped lead MHS to two Catholic League title and two state championships … member of the National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society …. earned MHSAA All-Academic honors in 2019 … received Honor Roll Award for four years (3.5 GPA or higher) … played club with Pinnacle Field Hockey based in Ann Arbor.

Four-year varsity letterwinner … scored 22 career goals ... 2019 team captain … totaled 8 goals, 12 assists and 1 defensive save this season … named PSHSFHCA Second Team All-State in 2018 … selected First Team Suburban One League … led Wissahickon with 12 goals in 2018 … received the WHS Varsity Field Hockey Best All-Around Player Award … honored as WHS October 2018 Athlete of the Month … recognized as Philafieldhockey Attacker of the Week … received the PSHSFHCA Senior/Junior Academic Award in 2018 … member of the National Honor Society … listed on Honor Roll for four years … earned the Montgomery County Spanish Award (2018-19) … also lettered in varsity swimming (2) and lacrosse (1) … played club with Philly Field Hockey.

Four-year varsity letterwinner … two-year team captain … selected to the 2019 All-Star game … selected first team all-conference in 2018 and to the second team in 2017 … won a state championship as a freshman in 2016 … also earned a letter in soccer … played club field hockey with Gateway Red.

Coach Ostoich on Katie Maxim:
"Katie is an aggressive keeper who has a huge presence in cage. She has great fundamentals and a loud voice. Katie will be an instrumental player in our backfield next year."

Four-year varsity letterwinner … team captain for senior season … named first team all-conference and third team all-metro in 2018 … named the most valuable defender for Nerinx Hall each of the last three seasons … played club for Aim Field Hockey for eight years.

Coach Ostoich on Hannah Wilson:
"Hannah is a gritty, fearless defender. Her work rate and intensity on the field will really challenge our team and raise our level of expectations next season."
