CMU concludes Arizona trip, finished 3-2 in Littlewood Classic
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Central Michigan softball team closed the Arizona State Littlewood Classic on Sunday with an 8-0 loss to fourth-ranked Florida at the Sun Devils' Farrington Stadium.
The Chippewas finished 3-2 in the Classic, with its two losses coming to two of the nation's premier programs in Florida and 14th-ranked Arizona State. CMU won its first three games of the event, defeating Utah State, Illinois State and San Diego.
CMU (4-6) is off until Spring Break, when it is scheduled to play 13 games in a 10-day period beginning on March 1. CMU will visit Madeira Beach, Tampa and Clearwater during its trip.
The Chippewas managed just two hits against the Gators. Allison Curtis led off the fourth inning with a triple for CMU, and Shannon Stein singled to lead off the fifth.
Florida starter Kelly Barnhill struck out eight over four innings. The Gators are 11-0. The game was called after 4 ½ innings on the run rule.
Shannon Stein started for CMU and took the loss. She allowed five runs on four hits over 2 1/3 innings. Cloe Mallory worked the final 1 2/3 innings. She allowed three runs and struck out two.
