Season ticket renewals and new sales are now available and can be purchased at http://bit.ly/2SiLAdG
Â
McElwain was named to head the program in December and his first season at the helm presents plenty of challenges and excitement as CMU takes on two opponents from Power-5 conferences, its in-state Mid-American Conference rivals, and several strong MAC programs.
Â
CMU kicks off the 2019 season at Kelly/Shorts Stadium when the Chippewas take on FCS opponent Albany on Thursday, Aug. 29. Another key date is Oct. 12 as CMU hosts New Mexico State for Homecoming.
Â
CMU's Power-5 opponents are Wisconsin and Miami (Fla.). The Chippewas go to Madison, Wis. to take on the Badgers on Saturday, Sept. 7, and then head to Miami, Fla. to play the Hurricanes on Saturday, Sept. 21. Wisconsin finished 8-5 last season including 5-4 in the Big Ten, while the Hurricanes were 7-6, 4-4 ACC a year ago. The two met in the Pinstripe Bowl.
Â
CMU plays host to Akron in its Mid-American Conference opener on Saturday, Sept. 14, and goes to Western Michigan and then entertain Eastern Michigan on back-to-back Saturdays, the first on Sept. 28 against the Broncos, the second on Oct. 5 against the Eagles.
Â
The Chippewas play at Bowling Green (Oct. 19), at Buffalo (Oct. 26) and at Ball State (Nov. 16); they entertain defending MAC champion Northern Illinois on Nov. 2, and close the regular-season at home against Toledo on Friday, Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving.
Â
In addition, the Chippewas will join in as the game of college football celebrates its 150th anniversary throughout the 2019 season. Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Michael Alford has taken on a leadership role as the 12 Mid-American Conference member institutions partake in the celebration.
Â
Over the course of 2019, cmuchippewas.com will publish a year-long retrospective touching on several themes in how the game has helped to shape and change lives. Among those themes is education, community involvement, leadership, gratitude, celebration and the future of the great game.
Â
CMU will also conduct fan voting to determine the greatest players, moments, games, upsets, teams and coaches in program history, and each decade of Chippewa football will be highlighted on social media beginning on June 1.
Â
The game of college football has had a major impact and influence on a countless number of people in its long, storied and rich history, from student-athletes, to coaches, to fans – virtually anyone and everyone who has ever played the game, watched it, experienced it. The game has indeed deeply touched and has helped define the American heart and soul.
Â
"We are all very excited at Central Michigan University to show just how important college football is in the American lexicon," Alford said. "The experiences of the game, from all perspectives, is truly remarkable. The passion for the game, with its rich and colorful history, is deeply rooted in all of us."
