Hudson's 24 points, Frost's double-double lead West-leading Chippewas
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – A dash of drama early on, and then NBC: Nothing But Chippewas.
The Central Michigan women's basketball team got 24 points from Presley Hudson and 21 points and 20 rebounds from Reyna Frost in rolling to a 92-54 Mid-American Conference victory over Bowling Green on Wednesday at the Falcons' Stroh Center.
The win lifted CMU to 19-6 overall, 10-3 MAC. The Chippewas lead the MAC West and they trail Miami (Ohio) by one game for the best record in the MAC. The RedHawks improved to 11-2 in MAC play with a 65-56 win at Toledo on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chippewas trailed, 11-4, early and then outscored the Falcons 27-13 over the final 6:02 of the first quarter for a 31-17 lead. By halftime, the Chippewas were up, 52-29, and in complete control.
A Maddy Watters 3-pointer with 7:10 left in the third extended CMU's lead to 30, 61-31. The Chippewas led by as many as 42 points in the fourth quarter.
"I was happy with the way we came out tonight because we did not overlook this team by any stretch of the imagination," CMU coach Sue Guevara said. "I told our kids, they're the best 1-11 team that I've seen in a long time simply because of the way they can score."
LEADERS
Frost's double-double was her eighth consecutive and 22nd of the season. Her 20 rebounds were one shy of her season high and just three off of her career high. Three times in her last six games Frost has totaled at least 20 points and 20 rebounds.
She has been named the MAC West Player of the Week in each of the last four weeks and eight times this season.
Frost's 21 points upped her career total to 1,573 as she moved into fifth place on CMU's career scoring list. She passed Britni Houghton, who scored 1,555 from 2007-10.
Hudson, a senior guard from Wayland, finished with nine assists, one below her season high, giving her 601 for her career. Hudson made nine of her 16 field goal attempts including a 6-for-11. It marked the second straight game that Hudson has made six triples.
Freshman Jahari Smith added 14 points and Micaela Kelly had 10.
DOMINANCE
The Chippewas outrebounded the Falcons, 50-28; 30 of their points off of Bowling Green turnovers; and CMU scored 46 points in the paint.
CMU held the Falcons to more than 16 points below their season average.
"I thought we were able to get a fair amount of deflections and steals and score (off of them)," Guevara said. "I thought that was pretty big, plus we were able to get the ball inside."
