CMU looks to take another step toward West crown
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan women's basketball team looks to take a big step toward clinching the Mid-American Conference West Division on Saturday when it entertains Northern Illinois at McGuirk Arena (1 p.m.).
The Chippewas are 19-6, 10-3 MAC. Northern Illinois is 16-9, 8-5 MAC. The Huskies are in second place behind CMU in the West with five games to play.
CMU trails Miami (Ohio) by one game in the overall league standings. The RedHawks, who play host to Bowling Green on Saturday, are 11-2 in conference play and have won 10 straight games. The RedHawks lead the East Division. Ohio is second at 10-3 and tied with CMU for the second-best record in the conference.
FIRST MEETING
The Chippewas defeated the Huskies, 89-66, in DeKalb, Ill. on Jan. 12.
THE CHIPPEWAS
Senior guard Presley Hudson ranks second in the MAC in scoring at 21.0 points per game, while senior forward Reyna Frost is third at 20.5 per. Frost is the league's leading rebounder at 13.4 boards per game. She ranks third in the nation in that category.
Frost has 22 double-doubles this season, which ranks third in the nation.
Hudson ranks 14th nationally in points per game, while Frost is 17th. No team in the nation has more than one player among the top 20 in scoring.
SCOUTING
The Huskies rank fourth in the MAC in scoring and 10th in defense. They score an average of 76.2 points per game, and surrender an average of 71.0.
Mikayla Voigt, a 5-foot-9 senior guard, leads the Huskies in scoring at 19.8 points per game, while teammate Ally May is the MAC's fourth-leading rebounder at 8.4 per.
RANKINGS
The Chippewas are seventh this week in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. Other MAC teams in the poll are Ohio, 10th; Miami, 15th; and Buffalo, 16th.
At 24, CMU holds the best RPI among MAC teams. Ohio, 36, is second, followed by Buffalo, 38; Miami, 42; Kent State, 79; Toledo, 81; and Northern Illinois, 95.

The Chippewas rolled to a 92-54 win on Wednesday at Bowling Green. Frost posted her 22nd double-double of the season with 21 points and 20 rebounds, and Hudson scored 24 points, to lead CMU.
