Final 2 MAC Duals On Tap For CMU Wrestlers

Chippewas visit Buffalo, Kent State this weekend
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. –The Central Michigan wrestling team hits the road this weekend for it final two Mid-American Conference duals as the season moves into the homestretch.
The Chippewas will wrestle at Buffalo on Friday (7 p.m.) and at Kent State on Sunday (1 p.m.). CMU is 3-6, 2-3 MAC; Buffalo is 9-4, 2-2; and the Golden Flashes are 7-12, 1-4.
"These are two important matches for us," CMU coach Tom Borrelli said. "Buffalo has had a couple of weeks to prepare for us and we're their only match this week. They've got five seniors in their lineup. It'll be a big match for them. We'll see if our guys can handle that.
"Kent State is a lot like us; they're young, they're rebuilding. It's a pretty good measuring stick for our program."
HILDEBRANDT SET TO RETURN
CMU 125-pounder Drew Hildebrandt is set to return to the lineup after missing the Chippewas' last two duals for health reasons. Hildebrandt is 14-7 and ranked 19thnationally by The Open Mat.
RANKINGS
CMU sophomore 285-pounder Matt Stencel (20-4) is ranked eighth nationally and first in the MAC. Four other Chippewas are ranked in the league: Hildebrandt is third, while Logan Parks (157), Collin Lieber (174) and Jordan Atienza (184) are each fourth.
Nationally, Buffalo's Bryan Lantry (141) is ranked seventh and Jake Gunning (285) is 17th; Kent State's Andrew McNally (184) is ranked 16th.
In the MAC for Buffalo, Derek Spann (133) is third, Lantry is second, Brett Perry (197) is fourth; and Gunning is third. For Kent State, McNally is third.
In the MAC team rankings, CMU and Buffalo are tied for fifth, and Kent State is eighth.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chippewas fell to Ohio on Sunday, 19-15, in a MAC dual at McGuirk Arena.
NEXT
The Chippewas close the dual portion of their season next weekend against Big Ten foes Michigan State and Purdue. CMU goes to MSU on Friday, Feb. 22 (6 p.m.) and the Boilermakers come to Mount Pleasant on Sunday, Feb. 24 (2 p.m.).
The Mid-American Conference Championships are slated for March 8-9 in Norfolk, Va., hosted by Old Dominion.
