Chippewas eye Southern Conference opener
KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State used a 7-1 spurt in the second half on Friday in handing the Central Michigan lacrosse team a 19-16 nonconference loss at the Owls' Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
The victory spoiled an eight-point (six goals, two assists) effort from CMU's Natalie Karlen and left the Chippewas 3-6 as they head into their Southern Conference opener on Sunday (noon) at Mercer in Macon, Ga.
The Chippewas were coming off a big 16-7 nonconference victory over Marquette.
"What helped us win against Marquette is what we didn't execute (against Kennesaw State)," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "Inconsistent clears and possessions. No surprises from Kennesaw State; we just didn't' execute and we didn't play consistently."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Siena Gore scored five goals and Abby Squires had five to lead the Owls, who snapped a three-game losing streak in improving to 3-6.
Squires scored with 22:59 to play to tie the game, 11-11, and then Gore scored 29 seconds later to put Kennesaw State ahead for good.

"We are 0-0 as of today," Tisdale said as the Chippewas look to their conference opener on Sunday at Mercer. "Mercer is the focus and we'll get after it (on Saturday)."
