Lacrosse Drops League Opener At Mercer

Chippewas head to D.C. area next weekend
MACON, Ga. -- The Central Michigan lacrosse team dropped its first Southern Conference game of the season on Sunday, falling to Mercer, 19-12, at the Bears' Five Star Stadium.

The Chippewas are 3-7. Mercer, which opened SoCon play with a 21-11 victory over Detroit Mercy on Friday, is 5-6, 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer opened the second half with a 7-1 spurt to turn a 7-6 halftime deficit into a 13-8 lead. The Bears outscored CMU, 13-5, in the second half.

Mercer outshot CMU, 44-26, with 30 of the Bears' shots on goal. Twenty of CMU's shots were on goal.

"When we get mentally tired, we make mistakes," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "Our leaders need to show up."

LEADERS
Emma Hamilton scored three goals for her second hat trick of the season to lead the Chippewas. Shannon Doyle, Tyra Prince and Natalie Karlen added two goals apiece.

Kelly Hagerty scored five goals to lead Mercer.

GOALTENDING
Hope Murray went all 60 minutes in goal for the Chippewas, posting 17 saves. She finished the day with a .472 save percentage.

NEXT
CMU will head to the Washington, D.C. area next weekend for games against Delaware State and Howard. The Chippewas will visit Delaware State on Friday, April 5 (4 p.m.), for a SoCon game; they play at Howard in a nonleaguer on Sunday, April 7 (11 a.m.).

The games will mark the final two on the road of the regular season for CMU.

"This week's focus will be on us and not allowing mental mistakes to show up at the beginning or end of games," Tisdale said.
