Fresh off big win, CMU will play two in California
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan lacrosse team travels to California this week for two games, the first, on Tuesday, March 5 (6 p.m.), against San Diego State, and the second on Friday, March 8 (7 p.m.) against UC Davis.
Â
WHERE THEY STAND
The Chippewas are 2-1 and are coming off a thrilling 12-11 overtime win over Cincinnati. It CMU's first win against Cincinnati in program history. San Diego State is 3-1 and is coming off a 16-7 win over Colombia. UC Davis is 3-4 and is coming off a win against Oregon 15-12.
Â
GAINING MOMENTUM
The win over Cincinnati, which had beaten CMU by an average of 10 goals in the first three meetings between the two programs from 2016-18, has helped to bolster the Chippewas' confidence, coach Sara Tisdale said.
Â
"The win against Cincinnati was validating because our game plan and execution was all about us and our strengths," said Tisdale, the only coach the Chippewas have had in their four-year history.
Â
TRAVELING
After playing its first three games in cold Midwestern weather, CMU will get a chance to soak up the California sun and warmth for a week. The objective, of course, is to win games while on the West Coast, but traveling so far and over such an extended period of time will give the Chippewas an opportunity to bond, Tisdale said.
Â
"We love traveling together," she said. "Being in California is a wonderful opportunity to grow on and off the field."
Â
NEXT
After the Chippewas return to Mount Pleasant from California, they will entertain American at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex on Monday, March 11 (3 p.m.).
