Gilles leads charge with four hits
The Chippewas (9-3) and Peacocks (0-7) are scheduled to play on Wednesday (10 a.m.). CMU has won two straight games and nine of its last 10.
Zach Gilles collected four hits including a double to lead the Chippewas at the plate, while Jason Sullivan added three hits. Sullivan and Bryan Jakiemiec drove in three runs apiece.
Six Chippewas – Zach Heeke, Zavier Warren, Gilles, Jacob Crum, Sullivan and Jakiemiec – finished the game with multiple hits. All nine Chippewa starters had at least one hit.
Left-hander Tyler Hankins (2-0) started and went five innings for the win. Garrett Navarra and Ryan Palmblad each pitched two innings in relief for CMU. The trio combined to surrender nine hits, walk two, and strike out eight.
