Lemay records third-consecutive hat trick to lead CMU
DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis scored four of the game's final five goals on Friday to pull away from Central Michigan and hand the Chippewas a 12-8 loss in a nonconference lacrosse game at Aggie Stadium.
The Chippewas (2-3) play host to American (3-3) in a nonleaguer on Monday, March 11 (3 p.m.) at the CMU Lacrosse/Soccer Complex.
Jocelyne Lemay scored three goals to lead the Chippewas, while Shannon Doyle had two. It was Lemay's third-consecutive hat trick.
Chippewa goaltender Dominique Hamman made 10 saves in 51-plus minutes. Hope Murray played the final 8:43 in goal and made two saves.
UC Davis scored early in the second half in building a 5-2 lead. The Chippewas remained within two or three goals until the Aggies (4-4) scored back-to-back goals with under 15 minutes to play to extend their lead to four, 10-6, their largest lead of the night to that point.
A Lemay goal at the 13:24 mark brought CMU back within three, 10-7, but UC Davis scored twice in the next four-plus minutes to ice it.
The Chippewas and Aggies finished even in the shots category, 32-32, and UC Davis finished with a 24-21 edge in shots on goal.
"Defensively we needed to make adjustments faster," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "The positives were that we saw players that have not gotten many minutes, like (Courtney) Burke and (Natalie) Bloniarz, step up and play very well. We need to finish our shots and play with enthusiasm."
