Sophomore shortstop is 22nd All-American in CMU baseball history
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Zavier Warren has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-America Third Team.
Warren, a sophomore from Southfield, is the first Chippewa to earn All-America honors in the non-freshman category since outfielder Tyler Stovall and pitcher Josh Collmenter accomplished the feat in 2007.
Warren becomes the 22nd player in program history to earn All-America honors, and the 15th to have done so at the university level.
Warren enjoyed a remarkable season, helping to lead CMU to a 47-14 finish, the Mid-American Conference regular-season and tournament championships, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, CMU's first since 1995.
The 47 wins matched the 1988 team for the most in program history, and the Chippewas' .770 win percentage was the fifth-best in the nation.
Warren hit .369 with eight home runs and 70 RBI. He led CMU in batting average and ranked second on the team in home runs and RBI, and was third in slugging percentage (.589). He belted a program-record 23 doubles and his 90 hits rank fourth in program history.
He was also drew 59 walks, breaking a program record that had stood for 47 years, finished a perfect 14-for-14 in stolen base attempts, and scored 73 runs, ranking eighth in the nation in that category.
Warren and Ohio senior Rudy Rott are the lone players from Mid-American Conference schools to earn a spot on one of the three All-America teams, which comprise 70 players.
