Baseball Drops Series Opener at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on Friday in handing Central Michigan a 5-4 loss in the opener of a three-game Mid-American Conference baseball series at the Falcons' Steller Field.
The loss dropped CMU to 11-18, 5-11 MAC; Bowling Green, which upped its win streak to six games, is 14-17, 8-8.
Game 2 of the series is set for Saturday (3 p.m.) and the finale is scheduled for Sunday (1 p.m.).
Joey Milto hit a two-out solo homer in the eighth inning to put CMU in front, 4-3. It was his fifth homer of the season.
Chippewa reliever Cameron Niehaus hit three batters to load the bases in the bottom of the eighth and then surrendered a two-out, two-run single that put the Falcons in front, 5-4.
CMU threatened in the ninth when Drew Loikits singled and was bunted to second by Bryson Webb.
Bowling Green closer Titus Lotz, a left-hander, came on to face left-handed hitting Cole Prout, who blooped a single to left, moving Loikits to third. Lotz struck out Harrison Bowman and Dominic Bouscher, pinch running for Prout, stole second to put two runners in scoring position.
Lotz then fanned Logan Keilen to end it.
Prout and Loikits led CMU's seven-hit attack with two hits apiece. CMU's Zach Knowlton delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning to tie the game, 2-2, and then Keilen stole home in the sixth to put the Chippewas in front, 3-2.
Chippewa starter Tyson Potts allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out two.
Jack Potteiger worked the seventh before giving way to Niehaus in the eighth. Neihaus (1-1) took the loss.
