Ten Chippewas Named A Scholastic All-American

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Ten members of the Central Michigan gymnastics team earned Scholastic All-America honors for 2018-19 from the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association.
In addition, the Chippewas ranked 21st nationally with a 3.6071 cumulative team grade point average. It was an improvement from 2017-18, when the Chippewas ranked 32nd with a cumulative 3.4988 GPA.
The Chippewas who were honored, with their year, their 2018-19 grade point average, and major: Sierra DeMarinis, 3.72, freshman, undeclared; Nora Fettinger, 4.00, sophomore, biology; Kennedy Rae Johnson, 3.52, sophomore, undeclared; Skyler Memmel, 3.43, senior, sport management; Kailey Miller, 3.46, senior, biology; Denelle Pedrick, 3.72, junior, exercise science; Gianna Plaksa, 3.92, senior, biology; Hayley Porter, 3.56, junior, exercise science; Kasey Janowicz, 3.32, senior, sport management; Bryttany Kaplan, 4.00, senior, recreation and event management.
It marks the fifth time that Kaplan has earned Scholastic All-America honors, while Plaksa has been so honored four times and Pedrick three times. It is the second-consecutive year that Porter, Johnson and Fettinger have been earned the honor.
It brings to 163 the number of times that Chippewa gymnasts have been named a Scholastic All-American in the 29-year history of the award.
