Ebersole Named MAC Defensive Player of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Senior Abigail Ebersole has been named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week after contributing two strong efforts in goal for the Central Michigan field hockey team during last weekend's road trip to Virginia and Pennsylvania.

In the Chippewas' MAC opener versus Longwood on Friday, Ebersole faced a hail of 32 shots, making 15 saves, while allowing just one goal in a 1-0 setback.

On Sunday, at Saint Francis, Ebersole repeated the feat, again recording 15 saves against 18 Red Flash shots on goal.

Ebersole leads the MAC and ranks fourth in the nation in saves per game (8.88).

Ebersole is the second Chippewa to be honored by the MAC this season, as freshman forward Alice O'Hagan received offensive player of the week recognition on September 3 after debuting with three goals in CMU's opening weekend.

Central Michigan is back on the road this weekend, continuing MAC play at Ball State on Saturday (1 p.m.). A year ago, the Chippewas topped the Cardinals, 1-0, in the regular season finale.
